FMEC: Culture of Wellness Collaborative

At the upcoming 2018 FMEC Annual meeting we will bring together thought leaders from Family Medicine and beyond who are committed to advancing the health and wellbeing of individuals and systems.  We invite you to join our Culture of Wellness Collaborative.

I am honored to introduce Catherine Florio Pipas, MD, MPH, who will facilitate our collaborative. She is a practicing Family Physician, Professor of Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth and master educator on Wellbeing for Individuals and Institutions.   She directs medical and public health curriculum, speaks nationally and recently authored A Doctor’s Dozen; 12 Strategies for Personal Health and A Culture of Wellness.  I have partnered with Cathy for over 25 years, her passion is inspiring and her message is vital to all of our lives and to our effectiveness personally and professionally.

We are committed to healthy individuals contributing to healthy communities.  We believe in Dr. Thomas Bodenheimer’s “Quadruple Aim” , which challenges leaders to go beyond the “Triple Aim” of better health, better care and lower costs to prioritize their own health as a means to effectively promote the health of others. By modeling healthy behaviors, health professionals set the example and give others permission to do the same. The health and sustainability of a team, an organization, and a population depend upon - and is determined by - the health of its leaders and each of its members. Systems change is needed to support individual success and successful individuals modeling wellness will foster a culture of health.

We will focus on the following objectives:

  1. Discuss the importance of wellbeing and the impact of burnout on individuals, teams, and organizations
  2. Examine factors that contribute to burnout using the National Academy of Medicine Framework
  3. Define the competency of wellness among health professionals
  4. Identify metrics that can be used to measure wellness at the level of students, residents, faculty, teams, departments and institutions
  5. Discuss innovative and best practice strategies that enhance personal, team and organization wellness.

Please join our collaborative…
