Through this project, the FMEC seeks to explore, understand and act on the educational and research issues involved in building mental health service capacity into primary care practices. The carve out approach has undermined the ability of Family Physicians to respond to the mental and behavioral health of their patients and communities. A great deal of research has been done documenting the efficacy of a "build in" approach. The FMEC will stimulate initiatives to translate the findings into policies that support this movement.
