Use of the written word has the potential to touch the hearts, minds and souls of people who care about the health and well being of the nation, their community, family, etc. Family Medicine is one of the best kept secrets of the US health care system. Family Medicine professionals have the ability to shine a light on an approach to health care that values relationships and impact of care.

There are a large number of Family Medicine professionals who use narrative and journalistic writing to express their ideas and experiences. This project provides a base for their collaboration.

Each year this group invites family physicians from the northeast region to submit their creative writing for review. Awards for the best short stories and best poems are given at the FMEC NorthEast Region meeting. The long term intention of this project is to stimulate the creative writing of family physicians so that their experience and vision can be shared.
