Family Physicians have a special interest in responding to the needs of people with chronic pain and addictions issues. This project provides a venue for the work of this group. Overall project goals include:

• To prepare a core group of family physicians to offer addiction/pain management education locally, regionally and nationally to family medicine residents, medical students and office-based physicians
• To support the trainers with a variety of products and services
• To develop a national curriculum for addiction/pain assessment and management in family medicine residency education
• To articulate the family medicine philosophy towards patients in pain
• To promote collaboration between family physicians and other organizations involved in addiction/pain management
