Each year the Family Medicine Education Consortium invites residency directors and chairs of departments of Family Medicine to nominate residents or junior faculty who they believe have strong leadership potential. A review panel composed of FMEC Board members reviews the nominees selecting the top 3 to 5 for this award. We believe that these Family Physicians will influence the future of health care in their communities and in the nation. The 2007 award winners are (in alphabetical order):

Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, PA. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor and Director
of the Family Medicine Clerkship at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Along with her

aspects of a multi-year evaluation project studying the effects of case management on the health,
well-being and satisfaction of elderly patients. She gained additional administrative experience as the
Acting Director of Planning at Horton Medical Center in Orange County, New York.
As a medical student and resident, Dr. Duane excelled as a leader, chairing the Family Medicine
Interest Group and National Primary Care Day Committee and serving in numerous leadership roles
through the American Academy of Family Physicians, including the Student member of the AAFP
Board of Directors from 1999-2000. She has been recognized for her leadership efforts by the
American Board of Family Medicine which named her as a 1998 Pisacano Leadership Scholar and

Currently, Dr. Duane plays an active leadership role in the District of Columbia chapter of the AAFP,
serving on its Executive Board as a Director responsible for increasing local student interest in the

students led directly to the establishment of a family medicine interest group at George Washington
University in the spring of 2006. Nationally, Dr. Duane is delighted to serve on the Preparing the
Personal Physician for Practice (P4) Steering Committee and the 2008 STFM Northeast Regional
conference planning committee, as these provide additional opportunities to share her enthusiasm for

and wife. She is proud to be accompanied on this life’s journey by her husband, Dr. Kenneth Lin,
